"How can each of us, through our daily choices, our relationships, our work, our volunteerism, and our acts of citizenship do the most good and the least harm for ourselves, other people, animals, and the environment and help solve the challenges we face in the world?" This is the question that both humane education and the system of yoga asks us to consider and the values that they both encourage.
"Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world." Roald Dahl
We are calling on all activists, yogis, change agents, and peaceful warriors of the future to join us and become empowered to stand in their own individual brilliance. This is a day for children to celebrate and craft the unique offerings that each of them bring to the world. Through yoga, music, artwork, humane education lessons (and more) they will learn how to listen to the truth of their own inner voice and heart and leave knowing that they are more powerful than they could ever have imagined.
Yoga benefits the expanding minds and growing bodies of children. It is a non-competitive, whole body (body, mind and emotions) practice that stimulates their physical strength, fosters body awareness, creates emotional balance, fosters cooperation, and builds self-confidence.
“Yoga is the way to consciousness of the unity and connectedness of everything in the universe: people, animals, plants, earth, air, water. Yoga also means the search for oneness, the truth, and the freedom that exists within us. The development of qualities such as courage and trust are preconditions for reaching this inner peace.” -- Helen Purperheart
The primary, age-appropriate messages include: 1) We Are All One: all people, animals, and Mother Earth herself, and we all deserve the same loving kindness, compassion and freedom, and 2) Kindness and compassion to self and others (humans, animals, Mother Earth). Which in turn, teaches that as humans we are not superior to animals, and there is much we can learn from them. Like how to be loving, brave, courageous, and kind. And the more children learn about animals and nature, the more they will care about protecting them. Realizing that all of our actions impact all of nature, and in turn, impact all living beings; including ourselves.
Event Location: Balance Yoga and Healing Arts, 680 E. Jericho Turnpike, Huntington Station, 11746
Space is limited; registration is required. Please use form below. $15 Donation. Children of all ages are welcome. Children 5 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Questions; Email [email protected].
